Optimizing the editing workflow

The nonlinear editing process has provided the program creator with new freedom – primarily the ability to try out and actually view edit decisions as they are made. However in practice, this freedom is superficial, restricted by the all too limited availability of the expensive, high-powered editing equipment and the long times involved in going back to import additional material.

The contrast to this is the workflow permitted by dira! Startrack TV. This easy to use tool brings the core abilities of a video editing suite – to select, trim and arrange video sequences into a coherent presentation – right to the standard journalist’s desktop, enabling him to make key decisions about his growing program right from his normal workplace, without booking an edit suite. With its full integration to the dira! Highlander cross-media client, dira! Startrack TV has access to all material in the system and can incorporate it without lengthy import processes.

Once the rough structure is complete, the result can be transferred to a craft editing suite to finalize the clip. The work of finishing the program can now be performed with the minimum possible delay. Integrated into networked video editing environments, this preparation and loading process can even be done fully automatically, allowing the editor to load up his project on the assigned editing workstation immediately, finding his material and the selected sequences all ready to go.
